(of the Dalek)
Now that is what I’m talking about!
Also, I don’t care how BBC numbers this episode, for me this is the season finale for series 11. It’s written that way in a way that DW 11x10 never felt like.
Things in bullet points:
And I think more than anything, this series proves to me that a good director is crucial to both the pacing and feel of a Doctor Who episodes. Jaime Childs, bless him, is more comfortable directing very intimate and cozy stories than in Big Even Cinematic stories. Unfortunately, his directorial vision set what Series 11 would look like.
Jaime Childs directing ‘It Takes You Away’ worked well in his wheelhouse because it’s a small cast, in a very closed setting. It’s basically theater. Jaime Childs directing very big set pieces like ‘The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos’ on the other hand? Aside from some nice tableaux, outside of his wheelhouse. Also, it makes TBRaK feel more tacked on and make me wonder what the writing schedule/bts is behind it.
True enough. She was and did fling the Dalek straight into a supernova.
“‘Course we do!”
“We’re always with you!”
Again, that look on Thirteen’s face. More ambivalent, more and more it seems like she’s not liking that Ride or Die. Especially here, against a Dalek but she keeps quiet. But the first chance she got to come face to face with a Dalek, she dispatches them away.
And the Dalek backing away. The most dangerous being in the universe. And it backs away from her, because everyone who is in the know knows that the Doctor is the most dangerous being in the universe.
There’s that savage joy there at being recognized. The sheer glee she has at being recognized (without the grandstanding), and how much dark joy she has at tracking the Dalek. Pure Predator of the Dalek coming out but with the Humans there, kept firmly at bay.
‘Rules change all the time’ and ‘think like a Dalek’ indeed.
Other Things of Note:
Also, Kate Stewart is a Chibnall creation, I bet she’s coming back next season, at the most opportune time, just when the Doctor needs her.
Get yourself un-shadowbanned
That post seems to be going around a bit but not the reblog on how to fix it, so here’s another
They got back to me within an hour.
Seriously - follow this. I was shadow-banned, and they fixed it within seconds.
Not an exaggeration - I got the “we received your ticket” and “we’ve fixed it” e-mail in the same minute.
ok I filled this support form out TWICE without hearing back from staff for weeks, but literally the second i sent the form with the screenshot the problem was resolved - there is clearly some sort of bot checking for attachments so this is a genuinely good solution if you’ve been shadowbanned
A special gift from me and the BBC and Peter Capaldi for you. It’s not in the With Great Pleasure that will go out on Christmas Day. But I couldn’t let it not be heard. So I asked if we could just put it up and they said yes. Go and listen. You can thank me later. It won’t be up for long so spread the word as quickly as you can. I want everyone who would love this to hear it.
I’m still here, then. Looks like @staff can’t even purge competently - I don’t know why I’m surprised!
Pretty sure this blog will be purged tomorrow, given that it’s been flagged as explicit - even though the flagged posts had nothing in them to warrant it, and I’ve deleted them all just to be sure - and I’ve tried telling @staff but what do they care?
So, in the immortal words of the dolphins, so long and thanks for all the fish.
I really hope the good omens TV show captures how fucking useless Crowley and Aziraphael and. Those dumb fuckers have virtually zero effect on the actual plot. They just sort of driving around being in love and being bad at stuff. I love them so much.
Fair’s fair - if Crowley hadn’t made a total arse of swapping the anti-christ and the American diplomat’s baby at the maternity hospital then none of the rest of it would have happened, and armageddon would have proceded as planned. That sounds like a pretty big effect on the plot to me - not arguing with the rest of the post, though.
